Greek Tax Authority (AADE) Intensifies Tax Return Audits, Creates 'Golden List'

The Greek Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) is intensifying audits on income tax and VAT return requests, utilizing artificial intelligence to identify suspicious declarations. The focus is on businesses and professionals with disproportionately high returns relative to their turnover, amended declarations, and companies with a problematic tax history.
In 2024, over 26,000 corporate declarations were in credit, with total requests of €1.13 billion. VAT returns are also under scrutiny, particularly those from newly established or seasonal companies. As of July 1st, 92,590 new businesses are required to file monthly VAT returns.
For 2025, 4,200 targeted VAT audits and 1,500 income tax return audits are planned. A 'Golden List' of compliant businesses is also being created, which will receive their returns promptly.
