New Year's Day in Cyprus is a celebration filled with traditions and family customs. In many villages, especially in the Paphos region, these customs are carefully observed.

Mairy Savvidou from Tala described how they celebrated New Year's with family, enjoying traditional foods such as roasts and vasilopita. A special custom is burning olive branches in the fireplace to reveal true love.

The First Foot: The first person to enter the house on New Year's Day is believed to bring luck for the whole year.

The Pomegranate: Breaking a pomegranate symbolizes abundance and good fortune.

The Olive Branch Custom: In the Paphos region, they make olive wreaths and throw olive branches into the fire, singing softly to see if love is true.

New Year's Carols: Children sing carols and receive treats.

According to Anna Tselepou, these customs strengthen cultural identity and transmit values to younger generations.
