Visual Artist Yannis Bouteas Passes Away – His Work at Kerameikos Metro Station

The distinguished visual artist Yannis Bouteas passed away at the age of 85. The news of his death was confirmed by Eleni Samarakis, wife of the writer Antonis Samarakis.

Born in Kalamata in 1941, he studied Engraving at the Athens School of Fine Arts and continued his studies in Paris. He represented Greece at the Venice Biennale in 1990 and the São Paulo Biennale in 1981.

His works are found in the National Gallery, the National Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art. One of his most famous works, 'Stratifications Energetic Images XVI', adorns the Kerameikos Metro station.

Yannis Bouteas is considered an important representative of luminal art, influenced by the minimalism movement.
