A new two-volume work by Dr. Nikos Panagiotou, titled "Thesaurisma. Elements Gleaned from Cypriot Newspapers (1879-1962)", highlights valuable information about the history and culture of Cyprus. The work, a private edition from 2025, draws material from 36 Cypriot newspapers from the period 1879-1962.

The author, a philologist and bibliographer, focuses on events and cultural happenings recorded in the newspapers, covering socio-political and economic conditions. The time period begins with the publication of the first newspaper in Larnaca, "Neon Kition," by Theodoulos Constantinides, and extends to the beginnings of the Cypriot Republic.

The work includes articles and news reports highlighting intellectual and artistic movements, professional and charitable activities, and significant events in local communities. It also records opinion pieces on national, educational, ecclesiastical, and social issues, as well as chronicles, reviews, and literary texts.

Special mention is made of individuals who wrote for the newspapers or were commemorated for their contributions. The book also records publications, institutions, associations, celebrations, and more.

Excerpts from newspapers present criticisms of the British administration and the social consequences of its policies. Problems such as crime, taxation, and exploitation are also mentioned.

"Thesaurisma" is an important reference work for the history of Cyprus and sparks further research.
