Cyprus: Clean Monday Traditions and Celebrations

Cypriots celebrated Clean Monday this year by cutting the Lent doll ('μούττη της Σαρακοστής'), honoring tradition. With good weather, many visited Athalassa Park in Nicosia, maintaining customs and passing them on to younger generations.

Families and friends celebrated with Lenten dishes, marking the start of the Lenten fast. The traditional kite flying was also present, with young and old participating.

Many excursionists headed to the coast, such as in Paphos, enjoying the sea and sun. In the free province of Famagusta, many preferred taverns for Lenten meals.

Increased traffic was observed on the Limassol-Nicosia highway due to the return from the three-day carnival. The good weather lasted until noon, as rain broke out in the afternoon, leading to the cancellation of scheduled events.
