Poetry Review: Takis Hadjigeorgiou's 'meta Chronos'

Takis Hadjigeorgiou, with a long career in politics and the media, publishes his new poetry collection 'meta Chronos' (Rodakio Editions, 2025). This collection, his third, consists mainly of political poems inspired by political life and figures.
The critic points out Hadjigeorgiou's involvement in politics and journalism as a source of inspiration, but also as a factor limiting the time for writing. In the poems, Hadjigeorgiou criticizes the hypocrisy of politicians and party self-interest. Characteristic is the poem where the viper symbolizes the crawling man.
Reference is also made to the T/C community, as in the poem 'Loukrounou', which refers to the uprooting of a Turkish Cypriot village. Also noteworthy is the poem 'Razie', a prose song with Cypriot colors. The poem 'Pablo Neruda' is characterized as poetological, inspired by the poet's visit to “Isla Negra”.
Overall, the collection is distinguished by the bitterness of experience, with rare glimmers of optimism. The poet emerges as a lyrical and introspective anatomist, while there are also allegorical poems of socio-political criticism, such as 'The Pigs'.
The collection concludes with a poem of subversive mood, expressing resistance and questioning.
