Impressive "Timkat" in Spata: Celebration of the Ethiopian Community

The Ethiopian community of Athens celebrated its Epiphany, known as "Timkat", on January 18th, at the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Spata. The ceremony reenacted the baptism of Jesus, with priests sprinkling the faithful with water, creating an atmosphere of joy and devotion.
The faithful, wearing traditional white garments ("netela"), participated in a service with a strong African flavor. The melodies were accompanied by the "kebero", a large double drum. The priests processed with sacred relics and a replica of the Ark of the Covenant.
The "Timkat" celebration highlighted the vibrant faith and rich tradition of the Ethiopian community in Greece.
