Cypriot director Eleni Anastasiou discusses the staging of the play 'Keffiyeh/ Made in China' by Palestinian Dalia Taha by the Antilogos theatre.

Anastasiou emphasizes that the play focuses on the child and the loss of joy and carefree abandon. Directorially, she aims to highlight the human presence and details, avoiding melodrama.

She has been in contact with Dalia Taha, who is a poet, playwright and educator from Ramallah, and there is a possibility that they will host her soon.

In an era of hyperinformation and images of horror, Anastasiou believes that theatre can slow down and remind us that behind every image there are people. She refers to stories in the play that engage with the commodification of death and violence.

She recognizes the difficulties faced by people in theatre, such as financial insecurity and fatigue, but emphasizes the need for meeting and storytelling. She points out the responsibility of the State to support artists and the arts, especially those aimed at children and adolescents.

The performance of 'Keffiyeh/ Made in China' is playing at the Maskarini Theatre in Nicosia, every Saturday and Sunday until March 15th.
