Tsikkini Case: Cyprus Intelligence Service Immediately Mobilized After Allegations

Following a complaint against a police officer for allegedly threatening a social media user, the Cyprus Intelligence Service (KYP) was immediately mobilized, according to a report in "Phileleftheros" and journalist Fanis Makridis.
Security services report that an investigation has been conducted into the allegations against the police officer, who was seconded to the KYP. Her secondment was terminated and she was placed in another police service.
The case gained momentum on August 25, when lawyer Alekos Argyrou, representing Nikoletta Andreou-Tsikkini, complained to Eirini Charalambidou, chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, about threats his client received from a police officer. In his letter, the lawyer stated that Ms. Tsikkini received a threatening message on August 19, 2025, via a comment on her social media post.
On August 27, after the identity of the police officer was revealed, she left the KYP and was placed in the Aliens and Immigration Service.
The Cyprus Police, through spokeswoman Kyriaki Lambrianidou, stated that the matter is being handled by the competent service.
Eirini Charalambidou has announced a discussion of the issue in the Human Rights Committee on September 15, where the head of the KYP, Tasos Tzionis, is also expected to be invited.
Deputy Government Spokesman, Giannis Antoniou, stated that "the President cannot be held accountable for the actions, arbitrariness of someone".
