Yiannakis Case: Arguments for Mitigation of Sentence

The Nicosia Criminal Court will announce on September 11 the sentence for the former Commissioner of Volunteerism, Yiannis Yiannakis, who is accused of trafficking forged documents.

His lawyer, Petros Stavrou, asked the Court to take into account mitigating factors, such as the lapse of 30 years since the commission of the offenses and Mr. Yiannakis' clean criminal record.

Mr. Stavrou stated that Yiannakis admitted three counts of trafficking a forged document on 2/4/2025, contributing to saving court time. He also stressed that the remaining charges were withdrawn by the Attorney General.

The lawyer argued that Yiannakis did not alter the documents himself and that the high school diploma did not serve any purpose. Documents were also presented regarding the positive evaluation of an ONEK program by the European Commission.

Judge Nicole Grigoriou set the announcement of the decision for Thursday, September 11, at 12:00.
