The Municipality of Kyrenia condemns the vandalism at the St. Fanourios cave in occupied Agios Georgios, Kyrenia. According to reports, the site has been turned into a "den of vandalism."

Icons were broken, and condoms and evidence of drug use were found. The Mayor of Kyrenia, Iosif Violaris, called on the Government to exert pressure for an investigation.

Greek Cypriot visitors told ΚΥΠΕ that they were faced with a "scene of shame" and "deep offense" to the Orthodox faith. Mr. Violaris expressed concern that the incident may be organized. He also expressed fears that the incident could be used as an excuse to prevent the residents of Agios Georgios from visiting their village on August 27, the day of the feast of St. Fanourios.
