V. Gettos: "Trafficking is in our homes"

Lawyer Vangelis Gettos analyzed the consequences of human trafficking in Cypriot society on the Alpha Enimerosi show. The issue was discussed at a conference entitled: "Trafficking in Cyprus: Labor - Migration - Geopolitics."

The conference highlighted the increasing trend in forced labor cases compared to sexual exploitation. Mr. Gettos explained that trafficking includes labor under conditions of slavery.

He emphasized that there are also Cypriot citizens who are victims of trafficking and that the State needs to improve coordination between the competent services. He mentioned that trafficking is one of the most profitable criminal activities worldwide, with a turnover exceeding $15 billion in 2024.

Mr. Gettos added that trafficking is a group crime with connections to governments outside Europe.
