The former Director of the Central Prisons, Giorgos Tryfonidis, in a telephone intervention on Omega's "ENIMEROSI TORA" show, expressed his annoyance at references to him and wanted to restore the truth about his removal.

Mr. Tryfonidis launched a scathing attack on Mr. Nikolaou, claiming that the rupture occurred when Mr. Nikolaou asked for his resignation due to incidents of suicides in prisons. "I replied: why should I resign? You should resign, you are the political supervisor," he said.

Mr. Tryfonidis referred to behind-the-scenes events from the Presidential Palace, saying that the then President Nikos Anastasiadis asked him to submit a request for transfer. He also denounced that Ionas Nikolaou moved quickly to secure his removal before he could submit his request.

Responding to criticism, Mr. Tryfonidis stressed: "I inherited chaos and built prisons." He stressed that he took over a mess and upgraded the penitentiary, hinting that the former minister's side is trying to embellish the subsequent situation.
