Tax Department Warns of Deceptive Tax Refund Messages

The Tax Department is warning the public about deceptive emails using the logo of the Government Portal “gov.cy”. These messages urge unsuspecting citizens to scan a QR code in order to receive a refund of Value Added Tax (VAT).
According to a statement, the messages also cite an incorrect email address referring to the new Tax For All (TFA) IT System.
The Department urges citizens to be cautious of such messages, which attempt to deceive users into opening suspicious files or following malicious links. Recipients of such messages are advised to ignore them.
It is emphasized that VAT and Income Tax refunds are only made by bank transfer to a bank account, the IBAN of which is declared by the taxpayer to the Department through secure procedures.
Any communication from the Tax Department to taxpayers via email is only carried out through addresses ending in: @tax.mof.gov.cy.
