Alert in Cyprus: Investigation into Suspicious Suitcase and Checks at Akrotiri

An alert was triggered in Larnaca last Saturday when a suspicious suitcase was found near the residence of the Chief Rabbi. Police conducted a search, but nothing suspicious was found. The suitcase belonged to a person who visited a nearby sports center.
Meanwhile, at Akrotiri, checks were carried out on journalists who were filming near a ship maintenance area. Police proceeded to verify their information without causing tension.
Authorities have taken increased security measures following the drone attack at Akrotiri. Instructions were given for vigilance and attention to facilities with American and Israeli interests. Patrols near the dead zone have also been reinforced.
In late February, a 28-year-old Azerbaijani and a 27-year-old Estonian were arrested as suspects of terrorism. The Azerbaijani allegedly photographed Israeli-owned facilities in Paphos and is believed to be linked to the Revolutionary Guards.
The police are in close cooperation with the British Bases and other services to enhance security.
