Greek Cypriots Arrested at Checkpoints for Illegal Tobacco

The Customs Department arrested Greek Cypriots at checkpoints for the illegal transport of tobacco products.
Specifically:
On 5/3/2026, at Agios Dometios, a woman was arrested with 5 cartons of cigarettes and 5 cartons of heated cigarettes without the required markings. She was released after an out-of-court settlement of €650.
On 6/3/2026, again at Agios Dometios, a man was arrested with hookah tobacco without the required markings and was released with an out-of-court settlement of €500.
On 7/3/2026, at Astromeritis – Zodia, a Greek Cypriot was arrested transporting 5 cartons of cigarettes without the necessary markings and was released with an out-of-court settlement of €450.
On 10/3/2026, at Agios Dometios, a man was arrested with cigarettes, heated cigarettes and rolling tobacco without the required markings. He was released with an out-of-court settlement of €300.
In all cases, the tobacco products and vehicles were confiscated.
