Greek Cypriots Arrested in Occupied Territories for Land Deeds

Five Greek Cypriots were arrested in the occupied area of Trikomo after being found in possession of Greek Cypriot property deeds and other documents. The occupation authorities are investigating whether the detainees went to the area to locate their properties or for buying and selling purposes.
The Bi-communal Committee on Crime has been informed that two are being held in connection with illegal entry and disturbing the peace. There are no charges of espionage, as initially reported.
The representative of the Greek Cypriot side on the Committee, Andros Kapardis, stated that the five will be brought before a pseudo-court next Wednesday. He estimated that a fine would be imposed and they would be released.
The Government is closely monitoring the case, believing that the arrest is a retaliation for the issue of usurpers. Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis stressed the importance of a complete picture of the data before diplomatic actions.
Mr. Letymbiotis stated that Greek Cypriots visiting the occupied territories should be careful as they have no institutional protection.
According to Turkish Cypriot media, the detainees are Andreas Kyprianou, Annie Kyprianou, Niki Grigoriou, Grigoris Grigoriou, and Antonis Louka. Arrangements are being made for their relatives to visit them.
