32-Year-Old Arrested for Entering Occupied Territories – Smuggling Suspicions

British Bases Police have arrested a 32-year-old Greek Cypriot who allegedly accidentally crossed into the occupied territories with his car in the Strovilia area. The arrest was made to investigate the circumstances of the incident, and there are suspicions of involvement in smuggling.

According to the Dhekelia British Bases Police, the 32-year-old from the Nicosia district allegedly entered the occupied territories around 4 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, while driving towards Strovilia.

In his statement, the 32-year-old stated that he was driving on the Larnaca – Famagusta road and, at some point, entered a dirt road where he stopped. When he saw lights shining on him, he realized he had entered the occupied territories. Fearing for his safety, he fled, leaving his car behind.

The authorities of the Republic have been informed about the incident and are expected to take the necessary actions through the United Nations for the return of the vehicle.
