Police have arrested a 27-year-old Syrian man in connection with the attempted murder of a security guard and the arson of four vehicles in Pyla. The suspect was brought before the Court, and an 8-day detention order was issued.

According to the Head of the Larnaca TAE, Giorgos Charalambous, the 27-year-old is linked to arranging the receipt of a stolen vehicle used in the criminal act and handing it over for money. His involvement in the perpetration of the crime is not ruled out.

A 19-year-old from Romania is also in custody, arrested after a chase. He is suspected of stealing the vehicle used in the attack.

The incident occurred in the early hours of August 14, when two individuals on a motorcycle doused vehicles of a car rental company with flammable liquid and set them on fire. One of the perpetrators shot at the security guard, without injuring him.

Police are continuing their investigation to arrest other individuals.
