EAC Fined for Worker's Death

The Nicosia District Court fined the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) €40,000 following a criminal prosecution by the Department of Labor Inspection of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance.

The prosecution concerned violations of occupational safety and health legislation, which led to the fatal injury of one employee on 22.6.2021 and the serious injury of a second.

The violations include:

• Lack of adequate guidance and supervision.
• Failure to assess the risks during the pressure test.
• Lack of adequate training for employees regarding the pressure test.
• Failure to maintain a fire extinguisher in a company car.
