Warning! Phone Scams Targeting Bank Accounts

Police are warning the public about phone scams aimed at stealing money from bank accounts.
According to reports to the Cyber Crime Sub-Directorate, fraudsters are contacting citizens or companies by phone, posing as interested buyers of products or services. They ask for bank account details, including the IBAN, under the pretext of payment.
Subsequently, a second person, posing as a bank employee, calls the victims, falsely informing them that they have been victims of fraud and that money has been stolen from their accounts. Under the guise of helping to recover the funds, they ask for account access details, allowing the perpetrators to gain online access and steal money.
The perpetrators speak Greek and use virtual phone numbers that resemble those of banks.
Police advise citizens to be careful in their transactions and never to disclose sensitive personal or banking information to unknown individuals.
