New threats against journalist in occupied territories

The T/C journalists' association expressed concern about the increasing threats against journalists in the occupied territories, following a third incident in just a few days. Journalist Pınar Barut of the online newspaper Özgür reported receiving threats after publishing a story about the licensing of a nightclub.
The T/C journalists' association condemned the attacks and attempts to defame journalists, stressing that the aim is to prevent the revelation of the truth. Furthermore, it stressed that threats and attempts to humiliate journalists are unacceptable and serve political and economic interests.
Recently, Gianan Oruner of Kıbrıs Postası and Hüseyin Ekmekci of Haber Kıbrıs also received threats for reporting on illegal activities in the occupied territories. The association's statement underlines the commitment of journalists to expose injustices and corruption, despite the difficult conditions.
