Michalis Katsounotos: Disciplinary Prosecution for Misconduct

The Police are proceeding with disciplinary prosecution against Michalis Katsounotos, Assistant Chief, regarding the events of 2022. According to a report by Fanis Makridis in "Fileleftheros", the prosecution concerns communication between Mr. Katsounotos, then head of YKAN, with a prisoner of the Central Prisons regarding Anna Aristotelous, then director of the prisons.
Ms. Aristotelous' complaint led to a criminal investigation by lawyer Achilleas Aimilianidis, who found possible abuse of power and conspiracy. Although the Attorney General did not proceed with criminal prosecution, a disciplinary investigation was deemed appropriate, which was assigned to Yiannakis Georgiou.
Mr. Katsounotos' first appearance before the disciplinary body took place yesterday, with his lawyer, Modestos Poyiatzis, requesting time to study the indictment. The Minister of Justice, Marios Hartsiotis, mentioned possible developments in the area of criminal liability. Mr. Katsounotos' involvement in a fatal incident in 2012 is not confirmed.
