Limassol: Rape Allegation Leads to Trial Despite Withdrawal Request

A rape case in Limassol has been referred to the Permanent Criminal Court, despite the complainant's desire to withdraw the allegation. Initially, the case was filed in the District Court, but following instructions from the Attorney General, it was referred to the Criminal Court.
According to philenews, the complainant alleged that her partner reacted violently when she asked him to delete photos with his ex-girlfriend, threatening, insulting, and hitting her. She also claimed that he raped her when she tried to leave the house.
The complaint was filed with the Violence Unit of the Limassol TAE. In court, the complainant reiterated her desire to withdraw the case in a sworn statement. However, the representative of the Prosecution Authority, Panikos Avraamidis, requested the detention of the accused until the trial, citing the evidence and the Istanbul Convention.
The Court approved the request, and the accused was remanded in custody at the Central Prison until the trial begins, which is scheduled for mid-March.
