Lemesos: Arson Suspected in Deadly Fire Investigation

Investigations into the causes and management of the deadly fire in mountainous Lemesos are continuing intensively by the competent authorities and American experts. The ten-member team from the American ATF is on the ground for the fourth day, collecting data for their report.

According to reports, the starting point of the investigations is the possibility of arson. The team is analyzing weather conditions, utilizing images and data via satellites and testimonies, always in the presence of members of the Cypriot police.

The American experts will meet on August 18 with the President of the Republic and are expected to present preliminary findings. The detailed report will be prepared in 45 days.

In addition, another team of experts from the United States will examine the management of the evacuation of residents and the coordination of services. The Republic of Cyprus will also seek the assistance of the European Union through the Civil Protection mechanism to reform civil defense.
