Larnaca: Arrest for Smuggling 159 Cartons of Cigarettes to England

On 23/1/2025, at Larnaca Airport, Customs Department officials arrested two passengers (a Turkish Cypriot and a Bulgarian) attempting to transport 159 cartons of cigarettes to the United Kingdom.

During the baggage check, large quantities of cigarettes were found without the required markings in Greek and Turkish, indicating that they were untaxed. The Turkish Cypriot had 72 cartons of 200 cigarettes, while the Bulgarian had 87 cartons of 200 cigarettes and 12 packs of 20 cigarettes.

The two passengers were arrested and taken to the Paphos District Court, which ordered their 4-day detention to facilitate the investigation by the Paphos Customs.
