A police officer has been arrested in Larnaca, according to a related announcement.

Members of the Police Internal Affairs Service proceeded today, based on a court warrant, to arrest a member of the Police, who serves in the Larnaca Police Directorate.

He is being investigated for the following offenses: Abuse of power, fraud and breach of trust by a public official, transfer of a mobile phone to detention, neglect of duty, violation of official secrecy, disobedience to laws, bribery, transactions indicative of corruption, and illicit acquisition of property.

According to the data under consideration, he allegedly handed over his personal mobile phone to a detainee, who made a number of calls. The investigations are continuing.
