Larnaca: GBL Identified as Cause of Death of 78-Year-Old

The State General Laboratory identified GBL (gamma-Butyrolactone) as the cause of death of a 78-year-old and the hospitalization of four individuals in Larnaca, after consuming water from a cooler, according to ΚΥΠΕ.
Police are continuing investigations to determine how the substance ended up in the cooler, while taking statements from the family and social environment of the victims.
The incident occurred on January 3rd. One patient who was intubated has been extubated but remains in the ICU.
Authorities are investigating the possibility of criminal activity.
