Larnaca: Investigation into Possible Link Between Two Criminal Acts

Police are investigating a possible link between two criminal acts committed in the last 24 hours in Larnaca. According to police sources, the targets have common business activities.
The criminal acts concern the arson of a vehicle in Aradippou, owned by a 42-year-old, and the attempted murder of a security guard at a car rental company, as well as the arson of four vehicles belonging to the company. The prosecuting authorities believe that the target in the second case was the owner of the business and not the guard.
The arson of the 42-year-old's vehicle took place around 4 a.m. on Friday (15/08) in Aradippou. Investigations revealed that the fire was deliberately caused, as flammable material was found.
The attack on the car rental company took place around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, on the Larnaca - Dhekelia road. Two suspects, one holding a gun, approached the security guard. The perpetrator shot at the guard, but the bullet ended up in a pillar. The perpetrator then pinned the guard to the ground, while his accomplice doused the vehicles with flammable material and set them on fire. Extensive damage was caused to four vehicles.
Members of the Police and the Fire Service arrived at the scene. Evidence was collected, including a cartridge case and a bullet. The security guard was not injured.
