Cyprus: All-Out War on Organized Crime Declared

The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris, has declared an all-out war on organized crime in Cyprus, emphasizing the need for institutional and comprehensive action.

Mr. Fytiris stated that Parliament has already approved critical legislation and further regulations are expected to cover institutional gaps. Particular emphasis is placed on the prosecution and confiscation of assets that are not justified, as they constitute a significant weapon against organized crime.

The Minister stressed the need for methodical and systematic actions, with absolute confidentiality, in identifying and arresting criminals. He also emphasized that the country needs to be freed from organized crime, corruption and extortion rings, calling for a collective effort.

"The war against organized crime concerns everyone, and this means that everyone must help," he characteristically stated.
