Xanthi: Truck Hits Two Cars at Toll Booths – Three Dead

A tragic traffic accident occurred on the Egnatia Odos highway, near the Iasmos toll booths in Xanthi, when a truck hit two cars that had stopped due to the queue at the tolls. Three people died and were charred.
According to initial reports, the two cars had stopped or slowed down due to the wait at the toll booths when the truck, driven by a 56-year-old from Bulgaria, crashed into them at high speed.
One car had four Albanian nationals, residents of Greece, as passengers. The driver, a 56-year-old, a 61-year-old co-driver, and a 57-year-old were charred to death. A 46-year-old was pulled out injured and is hospitalized out of danger. The second car had four relatives of the victims, of whom the 36-year-old driver, the 28-year-old co-driver, and two children aged 6 and 4 were slightly injured.
It was reported that the passengers of the two cars were returning from a wedding in Evros. The Egnatia Odos highway was closed for several hours.
A driver's testimony stated that they heard the trapped people begging for help before the fire spread.
