The Department of Customs carried out seizures of a large quantity of tobacco products on Sunday at Paphos Airport and on Monday at Larnaca Airport, during inspections for duty-free products.

According to an announcement, on Sunday, at Paphos Airport, Customs Department officials located a 34-year-old passenger bound for the United Kingdom, who was carrying 50 cartons of 200 cigarettes each, as well as rolling tobacco, weighing 10 kg. The products did not bear the required markings regarding the effects of smoking on health, in Greek and Turkish, nor the traceability code.

The passenger was arrested and taken to the Paphos District Court, which issued a two-day detention order. The trial is scheduled for March 20, 2026.

Furthermore, on Monday, at Larnaca Airport, a passenger about to travel to the United Kingdom was found with 148 cartons of cigarettes of 200 pieces each, with the same omissions in labeling. He was released after an out-of-court settlement with a payment of 8,880 euros.
