Seizure of Untaxed Tobacco Products in Latsia and Deryneia

The Department of Customs seized untaxed tobacco products in two separate operations in the Latsia area and at the Deryneia crossing point on October 30 and 31, 2025.

In Latsia, customs officials found 32 cartons of 200 cigarettes, 7 packs of 20 cigarettes, and 900 grams of rolling tobacco at a premises managed by a 76-year-old Greek Cypriot woman. The woman was arrested and released after an out-of-court settlement with a fine of €4,000.

In Deryneia, customs officials found 15 cartons of 200 cigarettes, 1 carton of 200 heated cigarettes, and 5 packs of 250 grams of tobacco in a vehicle driven by a 57-year-old Turkish Cypriot man. The man was arrested and released after an out-of-court settlement with a payment of €1,500, plus an additional €500 for the return of the vehicle.

The Department of Customs reminds the public that the import, possession, and distribution of untaxed tobacco products are serious offenses.
