Cyprus Prisons: Improvement Works Within 6 Months

A meeting was held under the Minister of Justice, Kostas Fytiris, regarding the improvement works at the Prisons. The goal is to complete the projects within three to six months.

According to an announcement, the projects include the renovation of the infirmaries, the creation of a new entrance for staff, the construction of a new clothing warehouse and a new infirmary in the Open Prisons. A system to prevent the use of mobile phones will also be implemented.

Minister Fytiris emphasized the need to implement the projects to improve the safety and living conditions of the prisoners, pending the construction of new Prisons.

The procurement of an electronic surveillance system for the conditional release of convicts has also been initiated.
