Central Prisons Murder Case: Sentencing on September 10

The Nicosia Criminal Court will announce the sentences on September 10 for the five defendants in the murder case of Turkish Cypriot Tansou Tsintan in Central Prisons.
During the hearing, the defense attorneys presented arguments for mitigation of sentences, referring to the personal and family circumstances of their clients.
Ilias Stefanou, the lawyer for the two prison guards found guilty of manslaughter by negligence, emphasized the personal circumstances of the defendants and their clean criminal record, expressing fears about their return to prison as inmates.
Mrs. Mouzourou, the lawyer for the third prison guard, who was convicted of causing death by reckless act, requested a suspended sentence, taking into account his many years of service.
Mrs. Pieroudi, the lawyer for the defendant charged with premeditated murder, referred to the personal circumstances of her client and the health condition of his mother.
Mrs. Oikonomou, the lawyer for the defendant charged with drug possession, requested a concurrent sentence.
Harris Karaolidou, representative of the Legal Service, stated that disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against 11 prison guards.
