Investigation into Offensive Banner Against Fidias at APOEL Match

Larnaca Police are investigating an offensive banner displayed by APOEL fans against MEP Fidias Panayiotou during their match against Freedom 24 Krasava ENY. The banner called Fidias Panayiotou a "shame of Cyprus."

The investigation concerns a possible violation of the law on preventing and suppressing violence in sports venues. Police are reviewing CCTV footage and investigating how the banner was brought into the stadium. One scenario being considered is that fans smuggled in a white sheet and wrote the message on the spot.

APOEL issued a statement arguing that the Police should be investigating those who "desecrate the history of Cyprus" instead of the banner.
