Police are investigating a clash in Larnaca, reportedly linked to a protection racket. According to Omega Channel, the incident stems from disputes over protection money.

A businessman reported that a group approached his establishment on Grigori Afxentiou Avenue, initially demanding €7,000 and then €1,000 monthly for protection. After the businessman refused, he received threatening phone calls. On Saturday, a group of 20 people appeared at the businessman's shop, demanding money, leading to a violent incident.

The incident triggered a response from authorities, with the Minister of Justice holding a meeting at the Larnaca Police Headquarters. Police are conducting checks for illegal immigrants, arresting 31 people. President Nikos Christodoulides called the incidents "unacceptable" and announced measures.

Three people are in custody in connection with the incident. Investigations are ongoing to identify other suspects.
