Aradippou Explosion: Developments and Potential Legal Actions

Following the explosion at a metal recycling plant in Aradippou, the Department of Environment states it has exhausted all available means. The Mayor of Aradippou, Christodoulos Partou, mentions potential legal actions against the owner of the plant and a second establishment in the area.

Theodoulos Mesimeris, Director of the Department of Environment, stated that the unit was operating without a waste management license. Despite the Department's efforts, the Court only imposed a fine of 600 euros.

The Municipality of Aradippou will send a letter to the Department of Environment requesting explanations regarding the licenses of the two units and is considering legal options. Mr. Partou expressed concerns about the handling of materials without the necessary permits.

The Mayor recalled that the Attorney General had taken legal action against one owner in 2019, but the Court only imposed a fine in 2023.
