Cyprus Court Denies Release of Pimps in 23-Year-Old's Case

The Cyprus Court of Appeal unanimously rejected the appeals of two individuals who challenged the lower court's decision to keep them in custody pending their trial at the Criminal Court. The two face serious charges, including sexual exploitation of adults, participation in a criminal organization, and abduction.
The defendants are scheduled to appear before the Criminal Court on September 12, 2025. The prosecution had requested their detention due to the risk of flight and potential attempts to influence witnesses.
According to the indictment, the defendants, between 2000 and July 4, 2025, conspired to sexually exploit a woman from Bulgaria, whom they allegedly abducted to Cyprus. The offenses were allegedly committed in Cyprus, Bulgaria, and Germany.
The Court of Appeal emphasized the seriousness of the offenses, particularly sexual exploitation, which carries a prison sentence of up to 25 years. It also referred to the risk of flight and witness tampering, dismissing the appeals as unfounded.
