Speeding Violations Increase in Cyprus Due to Traffic Cameras

Traffic violations in Cyprus are showing a worrying increase, as recorded by the photo-monitoring system. According to official Police data, speeding is the most frequent violation, considered a significant factor in causing traffic accidents.
The photo-monitoring system started operating in 2022, recording 81,058 violations. The numbers have increased significantly in subsequent years. A large percentage of fines remain unpaid, even from 2022. As of September 2024, over 125,000 fines have not been paid, while the total number of complaints exceeds 202,000.
7,644 cases have been registered in Court.

- 2022: 81,058 complaints (13,172 for traffic sign violations, 4,224 for traffic light violations, 63,662 for speeding)
- 2023: 171,515 complaints (15,784 for traffic sign violations, 19,238 for traffic light violations, 136,493 for speeding)
- 2024: 257,832 complaints (32,923 for traffic sign violations, 58,928 for traffic light violations, 165,981 for speeding)
- 2025 (until 31/8): 202,238 complaints (26,141 for traffic sign violations, 52,438 for traffic light violations, 123,659 for speeding)
