Police to Conduct Alcohol and Drug Checks Starting Tomorrow

The Police are launching an awareness and policing campaign from tomorrow, Monday, December 15, 2025, until Sunday, December 21, 2025, to detect alcohol and drugs in drivers.

The campaign will be conducted simultaneously at the European level, in cooperation with the European Traffic Police Network Roadpol.

According to data for the period 2022 – 2024, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as careless driving, were the main causes of fatal road collisions in Cyprus, at a rate of 23.3% and 21.4% respectively.

A significant percentage of road deaths in the European Union are due to driving under the influence of alcohol, while drug use reduces the mental and psychological capacity of drivers, increasing the risk of accidents.
