Five Charges Suspended for Yannakis Yannakis

Significant development in the trial of former Commissioner for Volunteerism, Yannakis Yannakis. The Legal Service has suspended five of the eight charges against him, related to the conditions of his employment by the Cyprus Youth Organization (ONEK).
Lawyer Petros Stavrou, representing Yannakis, had pleaded guilty to three charges of circulating a false official document, concerning his high school diploma and an American university degree. He did not admit to the charges related to the creation of the forged documents, nor the charge of forging the letter of recommendation for his employment at ONEK.
The development occurred at the Nicosia District Court. Judge Nicol Grigoriou expressed displeasure with delaying tactics. Lawyer Marina Masoura conveyed the Prosecutor's decision to suspend the five charges and present a statement of facts for the remaining three.
The hearing for mitigation of the sentence is scheduled for August 29th. The charges to which he pleaded guilty carry a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
