Financial disputes appear to be behind the discovery of a hand grenade at a property in Ayia Napa on Saturday, according to information from Cyprus Times. Authorities believe the placement of the hand grenade was a warning regarding outstanding debts.

A relevant source stated that the perpetrators did not intend to harm citizens but to send a message with a financial motive. Investigations were also conducted at other properties related to the ownership.

The complainants did not provide direction to the authorities regarding who might be behind the act. The case began after a phone call about a bomb placement, with the Cyprus Times publishing footage of the evacuation of the area.

The hand grenade has been collected and sent for examination.
