13-year-old Syrian Found in Occupied Territories: Attempted to Reunite with Mother

A 13-year-old Syrian boy, who had been reported missing, was found in the occupied territories on Tuesday, August 12. According to a statement by Hope for Children, the minor had been staying at the organization's facility since June 23, 2025, after being referred by the Social Welfare Services.
Reportedly, the 13-year-old left the shelter on August 6 to buy food and did not return. Investigations revealed that he intended to return to his mother, who is in Turkey, using illegal means. Police are awaiting information from the occupying authorities regarding whether he will be returned to the Republic's authorities.
Hope for Children denies reports of bullying against the child during his stay. It is noted that there is no legal procedure for reunification with a parent from a third country under asylum seeker status, often leading to dangerous choices.
