With her rise construction activity throughout the country, the first month of the new year has ended. However, it seems that a “fatigue” is already being observed in its market Attica, which is also the largest in the country, as a decline is recorded. In particular, during the month of January, the total building activity throughout the country was formed in 2,133 building permits, corresponding to 457,344 sq.m. surface area and 2,039,124 cubic meters of volume, i.e. an increase of 15.1% in the number of permits, by 14.7% in surface area and by 9.2% in volume. Accordingly, private construction activity recorded an increase of 15.7% in the number of permits, by 15% in surface area and by 9.6% in volume.
However, in Attica, although o number of licenses saw an increase of 7.9%, a decrease of 4.4% in surface area and 23.3% in volume was recorded. Market players estimate that this decrease is attributed to the wait-and-see attitude observed by many professionals in view of the changes announced by the government to its regime “golden visa”but also of short-term leases. In fact, given that in the months that followed, especially in March and April, the question of the suspension of granting new building permits by some municipalities, especially the southern suburbswhere a large part of the new buildings are concentrated, it is very likely that this will also be reflected in the future elements of ELSTATthrough maintaining the downward trend of private construction activity.
On the contrary, in other regions of the country, a significant increase is recorded during this January. Specifically, in Central Macedonia (Thessaloniki) there was an increase in the number of licenses by 35.8%, the area by 73.4% and the volume by 79.1%.
It is recalled that overall in 2023 private construction activity showed an increase of 7.2% in the number of permits, by 11.9% in surface area and by 15.9% in volume, compared to 2022. In Attica, 5,974 permits were issued, a total of surface area of 1.86 million sq.m. and 8.5 million cubic meters of volume, corresponding to an increase of 3% in the number of permits, by 10.6% in area and by 8.9% in volume.
