According to the president of POEDIN, the nurse was injured by the minor who has been separated from her relatives by prosecutor’s order
According to the president of the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Employees (POEDIN), Michalis Giannakos, a 15-year-old nurse of the institution was the victim of a beating inside the “Aglaia Kyriakou” Children’s Hospital by a 15-year-old with coronavirus.
As he reports, on the evening of Sunday November 26, a 15-year-old girl who had tested positive for the coronavirus and has been in the hospital for over a month with a prosecutor’s order, attacked and injured a nurse. The 15-year-old and her brother are being hosted – by order of the prosecutor – in the pediatric clinic of the Children’s hospital in the presence of their mother, due to an inappropriate family environment, as the president of POEDIN claims.
The 15-year-old, as well as her brother, have been suffering from coronavirus for the past few days and were being treated in isolation in a ward of the hospital’s pediatric clinic. “When the nurse saw the girl leave the ward, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus to other hospitalized children in the clinic, the nurse asked her to return to her room. Then the 15-year-old attacked her,” said Mr. Giannakos.
According to the president of POEDIN, more than 45 children who have been abused for various reasons are today under a prosecutor’s order in pediatric hospitals and many more in pediatric clinics of general hospitals. These children, through no fault of their own, disrupt the operation of pediatric hospitals and some of them with viruses, become carriers of infections, like the 15-year-old. “Why should prosecutors insist that the accommodation of abused children be done in hospitals and not in welfare units?” concludes the president of POEDIN.
